13.6% Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA): TCA chemical peels are used to improve evening of skin tone. Dark Spot Peel was designed as a superficial chemical peel to reduce the chances of PIH (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation) or scarring, two complications commonly associated with stronger TCA peels.

Because the Dark Spot Peel includes highly potent ingredients, we strongly recommend that you follow all application steps, including pre- and post-peel, as provided below. This will help ensure maximum results and skin comfort.

PREP: How to Prepare for Your Dark Spot Peel
At least 2 weeks prior to your dark spot peel treatment, stop using skincare products with retinoids and acids.

Select the spot you will be targeting with this Kit. For 2 weeks prior to your dark spot peel treatment, every morning apply dabs of Daily Dark Spot Intercept followed by Daily Renewal Cream, plus Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 on the spot. At night, repeat the application of Dark Spot Intercept and Daily Renewal Cream on the spot. When outdoors, reapply Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 every 2-3 hours.

These steps prime the skin, creating the ideal condition for the dark spot peel application and ensuring the best post-peel results.

PEEL: What to Do on Treatment Day
Use the provided Accessory Kit which contains a headband, alcohol wipe, gloves, and cotton swab to properly prep skin and ensure safe product handling and application.

Step 1: Put on headband to keep hair completely off face. Cleanse skin using cleansers that do not contain acids and remind yourself which spot you are targeting. Put on gloves and sweep pre-peel alcohol wipe over targeted spot.

Step 2: Once the skin is clean and dry, open the Dark Spot Peel vial and dip the cotton swab into the solution until it is saturated. Before applying the Dark Spot Peel solution to the skin, make sure the cotton swab is not dripping.

Step 3: Apply one layer of Dark Spot Peel solution to the selected spot, using the cotton swab. Moderate tingling/burning sensation may occur. Wait 3-5 minutes or until tingling/burning subsides, then re-applying a second layer of Dark Spot Peel solution following instructions described in step # 2.

Step 4: Repeat for a maximum of: three layers if you are an inexperienced peel user; or, five layers if you are an experienced peel user. This peel is self-neutralizing. Do not rinse off until the next time you plan to wash your face. If you develop skin frosting stop dark spot peel application. Dark Spot peel is a TCA peel and therefore may trigger skin frosting (as described at ourself.com). For first time users stop at light to moderate frosting (see pictures). Once you know how your skin reacts to Dark Spot Peel a deeper layer of frosting can be accomplished.

Step 5: Once you have applied the final layer and waited 3-5 minutes, apply Dark Spot Intercept and follow with Daily Renewal Cream as needed to keep the treated area well moisturized. Be sure to follow with Mineral Sunscreen prior to any sun exposure.

POST: How to Care For Skin After Your Peel
Starting the evening immediately following the Dark Spot Peel treatment, apply both Dark Spot Intercept and Daily Renewal Cream to the entire face, making sure to cover the treated spot areas. Continue applying both products daily, AM and PM, as skin heals. 

It’s very important to use Mineral Sunscreen in the daytime to protect skin and encourage results. Avoid sun exposure.

Keeping the treated area moisturized is essential. Apply Daily Renewal Cream as needed to minimize dryness and redness. If the treated area feels itchy, dry or tense, reapply moisturizer—do not scratch.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Approximately 48-72 hours post-treatment, you may see visible darkening of the treated area, this is expected. Flaking, and/or peeling of the treated area may also occur. Do not physically or chemically exfoliate the treated area. For best results, it is important to allow flaking skin to come off on its own within a couple of days. See results—clear, renewed skin—within 7-10 days.

Dark Spot Peel:
CAUTION: For external use only. May cause skin and eye irritation. If contact with the eyes occurs, rinse immediately and thoroughly with water. If skin irritation occurs and persists, consult a physician. If swallowed, call the Poison Control center in your area. Keep out of the reach of children. Take proper precautions when opening.

Do not use this if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or nursing, you are allergic to any of the ingredients (see product carton), are experiencing an active flare up of skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, eczema or lupus, or experience chronic skin inflammation, such as psoriasis or rosacea. Do not use on broken, compromised, or irritated skin. Do not apply in hypopigmented areas. Do not use if you have depigmentation. Use only as directed. Discontinue retinoids and acids at least two weeks before performing this chemical peel. If you have a history of herpes, we recommend talking to your doctor about pertaining medication to prevent an outbreak prior to peel.

SUNBURN ALERT: This product contains alpha/beta/poly hydroxy acids (AHA/BHA/PHA) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.
