Because Dark Spot Peel includes highly potent ingredients, we strongly recommend that you follow all application steps, including pre- and post-peel, as provided below. This will help ensure maximum results and skin comfort.
PREP: How to Prepare for Your Dark Spot Peel
At least 2 weeks prior to your Dark Spot Peel treatment, stop using skincare products with retinoid/retinol and AHAs/BHAs.
For 2 weeks prior to your Dark Spot Peel treatment, every morning, apply Daily Dark Spot Intercept followed by Daily Renewal Cream, plus Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50. At night, repeat the application of Daily Dark Spot Intercept and Daily Renewal Cream. When outdoors, reapply Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 every 2-3 hours.
These steps prime the skin, creating the ideal condition to apply Dark Spot Peel and ensuring the best post-peel results.
PEEL: What to Do on Treatment Day
Use the provided Accessory Kit which contains a headband, alcohol wipe, gloves, and cotton swab to properly prep skin and ensure safe product handling and application.
Step 1: Put on headband to keep hair completely off face. Cleanse skin using cleansers that do not contain acids. Put on gloves and sweep pre-peel alcohol wipe over targeted spot(s).
Step 2: Once the skin is clean and dry, open the peel vial by pushing up on the thin plastic cap, positioning your thumb at the base of the arrows. This will break the foil safety seal in the center. Continue pulling in the direction of the arrows and twist to remove the rest of the foil seal. Carefully remove the inner stopper. Dip the cotton swab into the solution until it is saturated. Before applying the Dark Spot Peel solution to the skin, make sure the cotton swab is not dripping.
Step 3: Apply one layer of Dark Spot Peel solution to the selected spot(s), using the cotton swab. Moderate tingling/burning sensation may occur. Wait 3-5 minutes or until tingling/burning subsides, then re-apply a second layer of Dark Spot Peel solution following instructions described in step # 2.
Step 4: Repeat for a maximum of: three (3) layers if you are an inexperienced peel user; or, five (5) layers if you are an experienced peel user. This Peel is self-neutralizing. Do not rinse off until the next time you plan to wash your face. If you develop skin frosting, stop application (Dark Spot Peel is a TCA peel and therefore may cause skin to turn white, known as skin frosting, which is what happens when the surface of your skin is exfoliated away by the acidic solution.). For first time users stop at light to moderate frosting (see pictures). Once you know how your skin reacts to Dark Spot Peel, a deeper layer of frosting can be accomplished.
Step 5: Once you have applied the final layer and waited 3-5 minutes, apply Daily Dark Spot Intercept and follow with Daily Renewal Cream as needed to keep the treated area well moisturized. Be sure to follow with Mineral Sunscreen prior to any sun exposure.
For disposal of leftover formula: turn the water faucet on and pour down the drain while water is running.
POST: How to Care For Skin After Your Peel
Starting the evening immediately following the Dark Spot Peel treatment, apply both Daily Dark Spot Intercept and Daily Renewal Cream to the entire face, making sure to cover the treated spot areas. Continue applying both products daily, AM and PM, as skin heals.
It’s very important to use Mineral Sunscreen in the daytime to protect skin and encourage results. Avoid sun exposure.
Keeping the treated area moisturized is essential. Apply Daily Renewal Cream as needed to minimize dryness and redness. If the treated area feels itchy, dry or tense, reapply moisturizer—do not scratch.
Once skin is fully healed, roughly 3-4 weeks after performing the Peel, and there is no peeling or signs of irritation present, you can start to add retinoids and acids back into your routine. We suggest you add one product at a time, and give it a few days before adding the next one.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Approximately 48-72 hours post-treatment, you may see visible darkening of the treated area. This is expected. Flaking, and/or peeling of the treated area may also occur. Do not physically or chemically exfoliate the treated area. For best results, it is important to allow flaking skin to come off on its own within 1-2 days. See results—clear, renewed skin—within 7-10 days.
POWER PAIRING: USING BRIGHTENING PEEL WITH DARK
SPOT PEEL
Layering the two Ourself peels is safe and effective—and highly recommended! First apply Brightening Peel all over, then follow with Dark Spot Peel on individual dark spots. Keep in mind:
- Finish applying five to seven layers of Brightening Peel before moving to Dark Spot Peel
- If your skin is frosted with a white layer after using Brightening Peel, stop there and don't continue with Dark Spot Peel
- If you see frosting while using Dark Spot Peel, stop and don't apply any more layers
- Warning: Discontinue use if you experience irritation or burning
- Be sure to read the complete directions for both peels
- Remember to wait at least 2 weeks, and preferably 4 weeks, after getting another strong treatment. This applies to the Ourself peels, too! Let your skin fully recover
- If you are new to using peels, we suggest trying one or the other on its own first to see how your skin responds
